How much does concreting cost in Traralgon?

2026 price ranges for concrete driveways, exposed aggregate, slabs, paths and removal, what moves a Traralgon quote up or down, and how to compare quotes.

Expect to pay around $2,600 to $6,000 for a plain driveway of roughly 40 square metres, and around $4,800 to $9,000 if you choose exposed aggregate, going by the national pricing overview in a concreting cost guide verified in October 2026. No published guide gives Traralgon-only figures, so treat these as a starting point and expect local quotes to move with access, removal, slab thickness and finish. This website is a referral service: the quotes you receive come from independent concreters who set their own prices.

Published price ranges

All figures below come from the national table in What’s The Damage’s concreting cost guide, verified in October 2026. They are averages across Australia, not quotes.

Job or finish Published range
Plain concrete slab $75 to $150 per sqm
Coloured concrete $95 to $200 per sqm
Exposed aggregate $120 to $200 per sqm
Stamped or stencilled $120 to $200 per sqm
Concrete path or footpath $75 to $160 per sqm
Patio or entertaining area $80 to $180 per sqm
Old concrete removal, including disposal $30 to $100 per sqm
Plain driveway, about 40 square metres $2,600 to $6,000
Exposed aggregate driveway $4,800 to $9,000
Shed slab, about 20 square metres $1,500 to $3,500

The guide’s table does not list council permit fees, engineering, soil tests or building surveyor fees, so budget for those separately. Latrobe City lists its works permit fees on its works and other permits page.

What drives the price of a Traralgon concreting job?

Access and travel

A job where the truck can back up and chute straight into the forms is the cheapest to pour. If concrete has to go through a side gate to a back yard, it has to be pumped or barrowed, and pump hire adds a line to the quote. Rural blocks outside the towns can add travel time for the provider.

Removal and preparation

Breaking out an old driveway, carting the rubble and digging out soft ground is often the biggest difference between a replacement quote on an older Morwell or Moe home and a first driveway on a new Traralgon block. Removal is listed separately in the table above for that reason. Topsoil, roots and wet ground should come out, and fill should be compacted in layers; a quote that leaves this out is cheaper because it does less.

Thickness, strength and steel

The CCAA datasheet on residential concrete driveways and paths gives 75 mm as the minimum for foot traffic and 100 mm for vehicles under 3 tonnes, rising to 150 mm for vehicles between 3 and 10 tonnes. A driveway that will carry a caravan, boat or delivery trucks costs more because it is thicker and may need stronger concrete and heavier mesh.

Finish

Plain broomed concrete is the base price. Colour, exposed aggregate and stamped patterns add materials, extra steps and sealing. The exposed aggregate guide explains why the decorative finishes cost more.

Season and weather

Concrete can be poured all year, but the weather changes the method. The CCAA datasheet says precautions are needed to place concrete when the air is hotter than 30 degrees or colder than 10 degrees, and says concrete should be protected from freezing for at least 24 hours after finishing. On a cold Latrobe Valley morning that can mean a later start and covering the fresh slab. In hot weather the CCAA lists wind breaks, shade covers and an evaporative retarder as measures to consider, and finishing has to keep pace with a slab that is drying quickly. Those precautions cost money, and a provider may price them in or reschedule rather than risk a poor result. Rain also matters: a pour cannot go ahead on a wet base, so allow for delays in winter.

Size and shape

Small jobs carry the same set-up and travel cost as larger ones, so a single path or pad usually costs more per square metre than a full driveway. Curves, steps and lots of corners add formwork time.

Permits and engineering

Driveways and paving do not need a building permit, but crossings need a Latrobe City works permit, and garages, sheds and carports generally need a building permit with engineering. See the shed, garage and house slabs page for that side of a slab quote.

What should be included in a quote?

Usually included Often excluded unless stated
Set-out, formwork and base preparation Removal of old concrete and disposal
Supply and placing of concrete to a stated strength Council permit fees
Mesh and bar chairs Soil test and engineering
Joints and finishing Plumbing and stormwater connections
Curing and clean-up Sealing of decorative finishes
Rock, tree roots or unexpected soft ground

How to compare quotes

Line up at least two written quotes against the same scope:

  1. Same area, measured the same way
  2. Same thickness and concrete strength
  3. Same mesh and joint layout
  4. Same finish and sealer
  5. Who removes the old concrete and where it goes
  6. Who lodges the crossing permit and pays the fee
  7. Start date, how weather delays are handled, and payment stages

For domestic building work, such as a garage slab under a building contract, the Building and Plumbing Commission’s guidance on agreements and contracts says work worth 10,000 dollars or more needs a written major domestic building contract with a registered builder. It also says deposits must not exceed 10 per cent where the contract price is under 20,000 dollars, or 5 per cent at 20,000 dollars or more, under the Domestic Building Contracts Act 1995.

Red flags in a concreting quote

  • A price given over the phone without anyone seeing the site or photos
  • No slab thickness, concrete strength or mesh named
  • A large cash deposit before any materials are ordered
  • An offer to skip the crossing permit or pour over an old cracked slab
  • No written scope of what is excluded
  • Pressure to sign the same day

Local notes

Traralgon’s growth areas mean many first driveways, where removal is not needed but crossings and full site preparation are. In Morwell, Moe and Newborough the housing stock is older, so removal and drainage corrections are more common. The Traralgon and Moe area pages describe those differences, and the driveway guide covers construction details.

What to do next

Write down the area, finish and any removal, take photos, then get written concreting quotes through the form so you can compare like with like.

Frequently asked questions

Why do concreting quotes in Traralgon vary so much?

Quotes often differ in scope rather than rates. One may include removal, a thicker slab and a sealer while another leaves them out. Ask each provider to state area, thickness, strength, mesh, finish and exclusions so the numbers can be compared fairly.

Is it cheaper to do the driveway and paths at the same time?

Usually, because set-up, travel and pump or truck costs are shared across a larger pour. It also lets the provider plan joints and falls across the whole area instead of matching new work to old.

Do the published price ranges include GST?

The national guide used on this site does not say whether its figures include GST. Ask every provider to state clearly whether their quote is GST inclusive, and whether they are registered for GST.

What deposit is reasonable for a concreting job?

For domestic building work, Victorian law caps deposits at 10 per cent under a 20,000 dollar contract price and 5 per cent at or above it. For a driveway-only job, a modest deposit tied to ordering materials and progress payments tied to stages are a fair arrangement.

Will my quote include the council crossing permit fee?

Only if the provider says so. Some quotes exclude permit fees because they are paid to Latrobe City. Confirm who lodges the application and who pays before you accept a quote.
